Objectives:

 

  1. Educating Students about Drug Risks: Increase awareness about the physical, mental, and social consequences of drug abuse.

Provide accurate information about common substances, their effects, and associated myths.

  1. Promoting Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Encourage students to adopt healthier coping mechanisms for stress and peer pressure. Highlight the benefits of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle.
  2. Preventing Drug Use: Reduce the likelihood of drug experimentation by addressing curiosity and misconceptions. Develop refusal skills and strategies to resist peer pressure.
  3. Identifying Early Warning Signs: Teach students how to recognize the early signs of substance abuse in themselves or peers. Empower them to seek help or provide support to those at risk.
  4. Building a Supportive Environment: Create a culture of openness and support, where students feel comfortable discussing issues related to drugs. Promote peer support groups, counselling services, and mentorship programs.
  5. Encouraging Responsible Behaviour: Foster accountability and a sense of responsibility for personal well-being and the well-being of others.
  6. Reducing Stigma around Addiction: Educate students about addiction as a medical issue to reduce judgment and promote empathy. Encourage compassion for individuals seeking recovery.
  7. Collaborating with Stakeholders: Engage faculty, parents, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement to ensure a comprehensive approach to drug awareness.
  8. Raising Awareness of Legal and Academic Consequences: Inform students about the legal implications of drug use and its potential impact on academic and career goals.
  9. Promoting Access to Resources: Share information about local and national helplines, rehabilitation canters, and college counselling services. By addressing these objectives, the campaign can effectively create a safer, healthier, and more informed college community.

 

The context:

An Anti-Drugs Awareness campaign was conducted in our college to raised awareness about the dangers of drug use and promotes a drug-free lifestyle. The campaign was organized by Anti-Drugs Club Govt J. Thankima College and District Level Task Force on Ruihhlo Do, Aizawl District, which was held at Govt J. Thankima College, dated 10. 10. 2023.          In this awareness campaign our Resource Person is Dr. C. Lalramdina, State Quality Consultant, Health Department, Govt of Mizoram. Mr Dr. Ramdina’s provide us about the advantages and disadvantages on the use of drugs through power-point presentation interestingly. He also shares his experiences to us about how the use of drugs can destroyed a human life from those clients he met and his experiences and from what people talks about the misuse of drugs around him, and also shares from the researcher’s work. Additionally, pamphlets was distributed to educate the participants about the various types of drugs, their harmful effects, and how to seek help if someone is struggling with drugs addiction.

Outcome: These activities engaged participants and encouraged them to reflect on the importance of staying away from drugs. By promoting a drug-free lifestyle and encouraging open conversations about drug use, the campaign has taken a proactive approach to addressing this important issue in our college.
