Peer Educator's Meeting HeldThe Red Ribbon Club (RRC), Peer Educator’s Meeting was held in the afternoon today at the 1st Semester BBA room. The Meeting was conducted by Lalmuanpuia, Associate Professor & Nodal Officer, and Zairemtluangi, Associate Professor & Nodal Officer of the RRC highlighted the obligations and works to be performed by the Peer Educators (PE).

Highlighting the agendas of the PEs, Zairemtluangi informed the members that the primary work is to prevent the spreading of HIV/AIDS and providing care to HIV /AIDS patient, as well as to organise voluntary blood donation camps to support the availability of blood in medical centres.

Speaking on the role of the PEs, Zairemtluangi said, “College students are vulnerable groups for HIV/AIDS and hence the PEs forms an effective channel in the prevention of HIV /AIDS as they can influence their peers. As students are more inclined to share their problems and difficulties with their peers than their teachers, PEs have been an important institution for the RRC to reach out to the students.”

As per the record maintained by Mizoram State AIDS Control Society up to August, 2018, there were 18,007 HIV patients in Mizoram. 66.68% of the HIV /AIDS patients were infected through sex and 24.4% patients were identified as Injecting Drugs Users (IDU).
