  2. To encourage proper waste disposal practices and facilitate recycling efforts by providing separate bins for different types of waste (e.g. recyclables, compostables, general waste).
  3. To improve the overall appearance of an area by reducing the amount of visible waste and creating a more aesthetically pleasing environment.
  4. To promote environmental sustainability by diverting waste from landfills and encouraging recycling and composting.
  5. To prevent pollution and protect wildlife by ensuring that waste is properly contained and disposed of in a responsible manner.
  6. To enhance public health and safety by reducing the risk of contamination and the spread of diseases associated with improper waste disposal.
  7. To comply with local regulations and ordinances regarding waste management and disposal.

The context:

20th September, 2022: Colour Coded Bins (Dry & Wet) is installed by Green Teachers and Green Leaders in the Classroom, Staff Office, Teacher’s Common Room at Central Campus, Boy’s Hostel at North Campus and Girl’s Hostel at South Campus. Students learned different types of waste segregation so that it can be recycled or disposed of more effectively.

Outcome:

  1. Reduced contamination: Separating dry and wet waste in designated bins can help reduce contamination and improve the quality of recyclable materials, making them more valuable in the recycling process.
  2. Increased recycling rates: Providing separate bins for dry and wet waste can encourage individuals to properly sort their waste, leading to higher rates of recycling and composting.
  3. Improved waste management: By separating dry and wet waste at the source, it becomes easier for waste management facilities to process and dispose of the waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
  4. Reduced landfill waste: Properly sorting dry and wet waste can help divert organic waste from landfills, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and contributing to a more sustainable waste management system.
  5. Cleaner public spaces: Installing dry and wet bins can help reduce litter and improve the cleanliness of public spaces, creating a more pleasant environment for residents and visitors.
  6. Environmental benefits: Separating dry and wet waste can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote resource conservation through recycling and composting efforts.
  7. Compliance with regulations: Properly managing dry and wet waste in separate bins can help ensure compliance with local regulations and ordinances related to waste management and disposal.
