A ‘Common Platform’ campaign programme for the candidates of the Students’ Union Leaders Elections, 2018 was organised by the office of the Returning Officer at the Central Campus today, ie., Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Regular classes were suspended to make the programme convenient for all the students to attend.
To ensure a free and fair SU elections, the Returning Officer (RO) has issued rules and regulations pertaining to conduct of elections. And, in this regards, the RO have expressed his gratitude that no misconduct by the candidates and their supporters has been observed. The RO also mentioned that canvassing of voters by means of class to class campaign and use of money power to attract voters is prohibited by conduct rules, and hence the Common Platform programme served as a crucial forum for candidates to campaign.
The S.U. Leaders elections shall commence tomorrow, ie., Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 09:30 AM and polling of votes shall be closed at 12:00 PM in the afternoon. Counting of votes shall be held from 01:00 PM and election results shall be declared thereafter.
The Common Platform programme was hosted by the Assistant Returning Officer Lalhmunsiami Khiangte, Associate Professor of English, and after an address by the Returning Officer Lalngaihawma, Assistant Professor of Economics, the candidates were invited to speak for 3 minutes.
