A celebration of the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence Day was organised by
the Department of Political Science, Government J. Thankima College, on Friday, August 12,
2022 at the Department’s Classroom. The celebration commenced with a welcome address by
Mr. Lalbuatsaiha, Assistant Professor of Political Science, who presided over the programme
as chair person. The celebration was attended by 61 selected students from the Department of
Political Science.
The chair person Mr. Buatsaiha expressed his gratitude to the Principal of the
Institution, Prof. JV Nunchunga, for acknowledging the celebration, and while presenting his
observation, the chair person said that the foundation of nation building rests in the
Constitution of India, and hence, the Constitution must be revered, uphold and followed in
letter and spirit.
The lecture in commemoration of the 75th Independence Day was delivered by Ms.
Lalbiaknii Hmar, Associate Professor of Political Science. Speaking on the essence of the
Preamble of the Indian Constitution, Ms. Hmar said that the Preamble is a document that
explains the philosophy and objectives of the Constitution; it contains the ideals that the
Constitution seek to achieve, while giving direction and purpose to the Constitution.
The students attending the celebration were divided into two groups, wherein one
group sang the national anthem and the other group recited the Preamble of the Constitution
of India. A quiz competition was also conducted by Dr. Lalrinngheta, Assistant Professor of
Political Science, as quiz master. Students providing the most number of correct answers
were given awards donated by Mrs. Lalringzuali, Associate Professor of Political Science.
