Anti Ragging Awareness Programme was conducted by Anti Ragging and Grievance Redressal Committee (ARGRC) on Friday, September 21, 2018. The Programme was conducted at the Central Campus for the 1st & 2nd Semester students.
The Chairperson of the Programme Maria Lalremruati, Assistant Professor & Secretary, ARGRC delivered the welcome address and introduced the Committee to the gathering, and also highlighted the main function of the Committee.
Then, the Chairperson of ARGRC, Lalmuanpuia, Associate Professor, delivered a lecture on the theme.
Adhering to the guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, Govt. J. Thankima College has been continously taking various measures in checking and curbing the menace of Ragging in the Institution.
Speaking at the Programme, the Secretary Maria Lalremruati delivered a lecture on the importance and gravity of the topic and highlighted the extended definition of ragging given by the Supreme Court of India. And, various forms of ragging with examples were enumerated in the lecture. The consequences of ragging were taught and students were given awareness regarding the punishments for ragging under the law. Students were also informed of their part and the role they should play in approaching the concerned personnel in case they are faced with any instances of ragging.
Administered by the Chairperson of ARGRC, Lalmuanpuia, an undertaking as provided by the UGC was signed by the students. And, an anti-ragging booklet which is a compendium of the rules, regulations of anti ragging and punishments was distributed to every participant. The booklet also contains the list of Anti Ragging and Grievance Committee, Monitoring Committee, Anti Ragging Squad along with their numbers, the helpline numbers for anti-ragging the and police helpline numbers.
Counselling for the prevention and curbing the menace of ragging also forms a major activity of the ARGRC. And, in case of doubts and queries arising from the students, the members of the ARGRC can be contacted 27×7.
