SU Elections Notice

As notified by the Principal, Government J. Thankima College vide Notification No. A. 12024/1/2017/JTC, Dated Aizawl, 27th July, 2022 the Returning Officer is pleased to notify that the General Election of Student’s Union for the Academic Year 2022-2023 shall be held on 5th August, 2022 (Friday).

The election rules and qualifications for candidates, in accordance to the Constitution of the Students’ Union, Government J. Thankima College vide Article V, VI & VII is reproduced hereunder. All students are informed to comply with the same.

ELECTION RULES AND CONDUCT:

1. The election is to be conducted in a free and fair manner. Therefore, candidates are strongly requested to refrain from any unfair practices including discriminatory remarks against the opponent on the basis of gender, religion, sub-tribe, linguistic, sub-region etc. which could be detrimental to the healthy and harmonious environment of the college during election campaign either in verbal or in any digital mode of campaign. Any such activities could compel the RO to take immediate action even to the extent of disqualification to the perpetrators and the instigators.

2. The Principal shall be the ex-officio President of the Students’ Union.

3. The office to which elections shall be held are listed as follows:

• Vice President

• General Secretary

• Magazine Editor

• Outdoor Games Secretary

• Indoor Games Secretary

• Social and Cultural Secretary

• Debating Secretary

4. Each candidate, except the post of the Vice President, should have an Assistant which may be regarded as Co-opted Executive Member of the Students’ Union.

  

  1. Voting shall be done by means of secret ballot voting system.
  1. Candidates securing majority of votes shall be declared as elected. In case of tie, there will be re-election in that post(s).
  1. Intending candidates may submit their candidature using the prescribed Nomination Form to the Returning Officer.
  1. The nomination form will be issued by the Returning Officer on 2nd August, 2022, Tuesday starting from 12:00 pm (at theteachers’ common room, Chhinlung) and the form should be submitted to the RO before 02:00pm the same day.
  1. Intending candidate(s) must submit their previous examination mark sheet(s) along with the nomination form.  They should be accompanied by his/her assistant and two supporters while filling the nomination paper.
  1. The last date for withdrawal of nomination shall be 12:00 – 02:00 Noon of the 3rd August, 2022 (Wednesday),
  1. Scrutinization of Nomination Forms submitted by the candidate(s) shall be held on 3rd August, 2022 (Wednesday) 02:00pm onwards. All Candidates are expected to be present during the scrutiny of their paper.

Petition relating to the election, if any, may be submitted to the Returning Officer on this day.

  1. The Common Platform Campaign shall be organized on 4th August (Thursday) 2022 at College Central Campus (02:00pm onwards).
  1. The Returning Officer is empowered to disqualify any candidates for violation of election rules and conduct.
  1. Polling shall be held between 09:30am – 01:00pm on 5th August 2022 (Friday).
  1. Counting of votes shall commenced from 01:30pm onwards and the Election Result will be declared once the counting is over.
  1. The post of the Debating Secretary shall be reserved for women. However, the post of the Assistant for the Debating Secretary shall be an open post.
  1. Students of the 1st Semester are not allowed to contest the General Elections.
