NOTIFICATION
As notified by the Principal, Government J. Thankima College vide.memo.no. 232024/2/2003/JTC/SU dated Aizawl the 31st July, 2018, the Returning Officer is pleased to notify that the General Election of Student’s Union for the Academic Year 2018-2019 shall be held on 8th August, 2018 (Wednesday) at the College Central Campus. The Class Representative (CR) Election shall also be conducted on 10th August, 2018 (Friday) 10:15 Am. in their respective classes.
The election rules and qualifications for candidates, in accordance to the Constitution of the Students’ Union, Government J. Thankima College vide Article V, VI & VII is hereby declared hereunder. All students are duly informed to comply with the same.
ELECTION RULES AND CONDUCT :
1. The Principal shall be the ex-officio President of the Students’ Union.
2. The office to which elections shall be held are listed as follows:
• Vice President
• General Secretary
• Magazine Editor
• Outdoor Games Secretary
• Indoor Games Secretary
• Social and Cultural Secretary
• Debating Secretary
3. Each candidate, except the post of the Vice President, should have an Assistant which may be regarded as Co-opted Executive Member of the Students’ Union.
4. Voting shall be done by means of ‘Secret Ballot’ in the Election.
5. Candidates securing simple majority of votes shall be declared as elected. In case of tie, there will be re-election in that post(s).
6. No students shall be allowed to cast votes in the General Election without Students’ Identity Card issued by the Principal. In case of lost, damage etc., he/she shall be allowed to cast vote with an authorization certificate from the Principal.
7. Election of Class Representatives shall be conducted by means of ‘Secret Ballot’ in their respective classes.
8. Intending candidates may submit their candidature using the prescribed Nomination Form issued by the Returning Officer on or before 3rd August, 2018, Friday (up to 12:00 Noon).
9. The last date for withdrawal of candidature shall be on 6th Monday, August, 2018, 12:00 Noon.
10. Scrutinization of Nomination Form submitted by the candidate(s) shall be held on 6th August (Monday), 2018 at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
11. The briefing of candidates shall be held on 6th August (Monday), 2018, 1:15 – 2:00 p.m. at Economics Core Room.
12. The Common Platform Campaign shall be organized on 7th August (Tuesday), 2018, at 1:15 p.m. at the College Conference Hall.

Seat Arrangement I/C : All polling officials and candidates.
13. All forms of campaign inside the classroom is prohibited.
14. Any forms of campaign in the polling area are strictly prohibited during the time of election.
15. Petition relating to the election, if any, may be submitted to the Returning Officer or Election Officials on or before 7th August (Tuesday), 2018 during office hours.
16. The Returning Officer may cancel the candidature of any candidates for violation of election rules and conduct, and may disqualify any candidate for not conforming to the ‘Qualifications of Candidates’ as laid down by the aforementioned Constitution.
QUALIFICATION FOR THE CANDIDATES :
1. A candidate must be a bonafide student of Government J. Thankima College.
2. He/ She must be a regular student of the College.
3. He/She must clear all papers in the University Examination(s). Hence, students having back paper shall be considered ineligible to contest in the General Election(s). (Article-VII Section -3) (As amended in 2015).
4. He/ She must clear all fines and dues, if any, to the College.
5. A candidate must not be an active member/political worker of any political party, whether regional or national.
6. The post of the Debating Secretary shall be reserved for women. (As amended in 2015)
7. The posts of the Vice President, General Secretary and Magazine Editor are exclusively reserved for the III Semester and V Semester students who have at least, a minimum of one year experience as a member of the Students’ Union Executive Committee. However, the posts of Outdoor Games Secretary, Indoor Games Secretary, Social & Cultural Secretary, Debating Secretary and all Assistant Secretaries are open to all the students. ELECTION SCHEDULE:
Polling : 8th August, 2018 (Wednesday), 9:30 – 12:00 PM.
Counting of ballot : 8th August, 2018 (Wednesday), 1:00 PM.
Election of Class Representatives (CR) : 10th August, 2018 (Friday), 10:15 AM.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS:
• It is compulsory to wear the College T.Shirt for voting.
• Updated Students’ ID is Compulsory to cast a vote.
• Bawngkawn SHO shall be requested to provide security on the polling day.
• All candidates shall be separate out in a room during polling; Mr. F. Lalhlira (Head Assistant) and Mr. Vanlalruata (Upper Divisional Clerk) were assigned to maintain discipline and conduct.
• Appointed Class Mentors are assigned to conduct Class Representatives Elections in their respective classes on 10th August 2018 (Friday) 10:15 a.m.
