12.8.2017: SEMINAR ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT THE WORKPLACE

 

REPORT OF THE SEMINAR: The Program was organized on 12th September, 2017 by Women Committee which was sponsored by RUSA. The Program was chaired by Ms. Lalthanchami Khiangte, Moderated by Ms. Sangrozami and Organizing Secretary was Ms. C. Vanlalruati. More than 170 students participated in the event.

Objective of the Program:

  • The purpose of the Seminar is to provide awareness and to make known to the student’s and staffs of the College about the Nature, Protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and for the prevention and the redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
  • Since Sexual harassment is a serious criminal offence, which can destroy human dignity and freedom, the Program is an effort to promote the well-being of all women employees at the work place by making all aware of the nature, prevention and protection and the Act
  • To prevent or deter any act of sexual harassment at the work place.

 

Program Outcome:

  • The Program was fruitful as the participants were vibrant and interactive, and feedback came from quite a number of the student participants. The Resource person highlighted on the nature of Sexual harassment which include such unwelcome sexually determined behaviour which was not known by the participants.

 

  • From the students’ feedback, they seem to be more aware of the nature of Sexual Harassment which may have been ignored, but were made aware that such behaviour should be treated as a misconduct. They were also made aware of redressal mechanism and about the Act if such incidents occurred, and the program is beneficial to help maintain a harmonious atmosphere within the campus and to enable students and women to pursue their work with dignity and reassurance at the Institution.
