New Academic Building Inaugurated – 29.07.2022

The Minister for Higher & Technical Education Dr. R. Lalthangliana inaugurated the Academic Building at the Central Campus of Govt. J. Thankima College on Friday, July 29, 2022. The building was constructed through upgradation of existing college scheme to Degree Model College Fund, under RUSA 2.0 Scheme. And, as approved as contractor by the Government of Mizoram, the Mizoram Technocrat Company (P) Ltd. took up the construction work with an allocated fund of ₹ 160 lakhs.

The Chief Guest Dr. R. Lalthangliana spoke at the occasion and conveyed his appreciation to the Insitution that much efforts has been made to mobilised resources, and the grants received have been utilised to create optimum output. The Chief Guest also expressed his gratitude that the staff of the Institution has made cash donations amounting to nearly ₹ 6 lakhs for the construction of classrooms at the newly inaugurated Academic Building to provide additional classrooms. Motivating the students, he said that most students who have excelled in University Examinations were hailed not from cities and towns, but from villages and even remote locations. Hence, educational background and location do not matter and does not accrue to valid excuses for not acquiring satisfactory examination results.

The Chief Guest also encouraged the students that being a mediocre and an average performing student does not count today. Hence, a student should strife to excel and sought for specialisation that would be relevant for their future career.

The Principal Prof. JV Nunchunga, who chaired the inaugural programme presented the brief history of the Institution and highlighted that the students enrolment has significantly increased from 593 in 2017 to 1,050 in 2021. Informing the gathering the Principal said that the Institution is the only government managed institution to offer Management studies in the state, and that BBA course and Geography subject were introduced on self financing basis in the Institution.

The technical report on the construction of RUSA Academic Building was presented by Er. Joshua Lalthakima, Assistant Engineer, State Project Directorate (RUSA). Mr. Joshua reported that the College could avail the fund since the Institution could conform to all the requisite qualifications and that the Model Degree College Fund amounts to ₹ 4 lakhs in total.

Er. Joshua said that the new building was a two floor building with a total floor area of 4,980 sq. ft. The building consisted of eight (8) classrooms with a capacity of 288 students.

Dr. Zarzoliana, Additional State Project Director (RUSA) also spoke on the occasion and extended his appreciation for the Institution in utilising various schemes of RUSA and the Model Degree College Fund in particular. He assured that RUSA office shall do everything in their capacity towards the development of the Institution and said that the role of teachers has been changing from conventional teaching methods to providers of information and asked the teachers to strengthen their capacity in the changing scenario.
