Context of the activity
Seminar on special education was jointly organised by Education Department, Govt.J Thankima College and Govt. Hrangbana College on 8th February, 2024. Two teachers along with Education 6th Semester students from Govt.Hrangbana College came to attend the programme. Mr. Lalbuatsaiha, Assistant Professor, Govt. J Thankima College from Political Science Department was invited as the resource person. Mr.Lalbuatsaiha is currently the State Election Icon for SVEEP, PWD and a research scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Miss Zairemtluangi was the Chairperson for the event. The topic of the seminar was “Education for visually impaired” and our resource person gave an enlightening and enriching speech on this topic as he himself is also visually challenged. He stressed about the importance of education, the kind of potential each human being is blessed with no matter what challenges we may have. He gave a notable example of his life, how he fought for his future, the battle he fought due to his blindness, how education has moulded his life inspite of the challenge that he may have and why, the students who are physically healthy should take importance in their education. Our resource person also stressed on an important information about the Persons with Disabilities Act ( PWD Act) 2016, how the Act provides for both preventive and promotional aspects of rehabilitation like education, employment and vocational training, reservation, research and manpower development, creation of barrier free environment, rehabilitation of persons with disability etc. It was indeed a fruitful and productive event both for the students as well as the teachers where students raised interesting questions regarding this particular topic. The seminar was concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr.Diana Zorinsangi.
