Brief Description& Outcomes:

  Lecture on Elimination of Single-Use Plastics and Cleanliness Drive wasorganized by the Eco Club and the Department of History, Government J. Thankima Collegeon the 2nd of February, 2024, at Central Campus.

  The event was dedicated to raising awareness about the elimination of single-use plastics (SUPs) through education and action. It garnered significant participation, with 120 students from the Eco Club and students of IV Semester FC/Environmental Studies actively engaging in the program.

  A key highlight of the event was the insightful lecture delivered by Ms. Freda Tluangi, Inspector of SUPs at Aizawl Municipal Corporation. Ms. Tluangi elucidated on the rules and regulations governing SUPs, emphasizing the municipal corporation’s initiatives and their impact on environmental sustainability. Her speech underscored the importance of reducing plastic waste and promoting alternatives that are eco-friendly and sustainable.

  The lecture also emphasized practical steps towards reducing plastic consumption:

  Promoting the use of reusable bags, bottles, and containers.

  Encouraging investment in eco-friendly alternatives to plastic.

  Exploring packaging options such as paper, glass, and aluminum.

  Developing innovative and sustainable packaging designs and materials.

  Increasing public awareness about the environmental impact of plastics.

  In conjunction with the lecture, a cleanliness drive was organized at the Central Campus. This hands-on activity not only reinforced the message of responsible waste management but also demonstrated the collective commitment of participants towards a cleaner and greener environment.

  It is commend the Eco Club, the Department of History, and all participants for their proactive engagement in promoting sustainable practices and combating plastic pollution. Let us continue to implement these lessons in our daily lives, striving towards a future where our actions preserve and protect our environment for generations to come.
