17.10.2016: SEMINAR ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS
REPORT OF THE SEMINAR: The Program was organized on 17th October, 2016 by Women Committee which was sponsored by RUSA. The Program was chaired by Ms. Sangrozami, Moderated by Ms. Lalthanchami Khiangte, and Coordinated by Ms. C. Vanlalruati. 231 students participated in the event.

Objective of the Program:
- To make the participants aware of the Rights of Women under IPC and the Protection enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
- To help empower women and girls in all spheres of public and private life so that they realize their full potential in a just and unbiased society.
- To address a number of structural inequalities which are layered in social organization and mind set, and present the building blocks of gender based discrimination and violence.
- To combat gender inequalities which assign women and girls a subordinate role in society and the family, making their contribution and participation unrecognized and undervalued.
- To ensure raising public awareness on the pervasive negative effects of patriarchal structure and protecting the rights of the vulnerable through giving them the chance to be actors on their own.
Outcome of the Program:
- Participants were involved in lively discussion and the Presentation seem to trigger the minds of the participants. A Number of queries and questions were addressed during the discussion session where participants also shared their benefit of attending the Seminar.
- They seem to be more aware of the Rights and Protection of Women, and they were also made aware of the fact that Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Women in parliament and positions of leadership, and laws are being informed to the participants in order to advance gender equality which seem to have a positive source of motivation to the female participants.
