SPECIAL LECTURE ON ‘WORKING OF VILLAGE COUNCILS IN MIZORAM’

A Special Lecture on ‘Working of Village Councils in Mizoram,’ was delivered by Lallawmawma, MCS., Deputy Director, Local Administration Department, Government of Mizoram at the Central Campus today, ie., Friday, 27th July 2018. The Programme was organized by the Department of Political Science and was attended by the students of the 1st Semester Political Science students. The Programme was sponsored by Rashtriya Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).

The resource person thanked Lalthlamuana, Associate Professor, and Head, Department of Political Science as well as the Department for inviting him and expressed his enthusiasm to interact with the students since he has an experience of being a teacher in a higher secondary school before joining his present service.

Lallawmawma told the audience that the working of village council(s) occupy a position of importance in Mizoram since it is the manifestation of grassroots democracy as well as the working of local governments in India. While highlighting the powers and functions of the village council, he informed the students that village councils in Mizoram faced a number of hurdles in the process of managing their respective villages owing to limited political and judicial powers, the financial limitation as well as their inexperiences in administration.

The Institutional Coordinator of RUSA, Dr. JV Nunchunga also spoke at the occasion of contemplating upon the correlation between population growth and development.

After a lively discussion, the programme concluded with Lalbiaknii Hmar, Associate Professor presenting a certificate to the resource person and Zoramthanga, Assistant Professor proposing a vote of thanks.
