Theme: Women Empowerment • Topic: ‘Empowering Women in the changing Society’
• Objectives: 1. To promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. 2. To encourage female students more stress on education.
• Target / No of participants:
Around 66 BA 5th Semester Student participated from the department of Political Science, Education, History, economics and Mizo.
• Resource Person: Ms. Maria Lalremruati, Chairman of the Women Committee and Associate Professor at Govt. J Thankima College. She is wonderful presenter and very knowledgeable person. She is the Board Member of YWCA, Women Committee Member of Asian Indigenous People Pact (AIPP) Chiangmai Thailand from 2011-2014.
• Report of event: C.Vanlalruati was the Chairperson, Ruth VL was documentation in charge. Isaac Lalrinsanga PhD Scholar also attended in this seminar.
• Body: According to our resource person, women’s empowerment can be defined to promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. In our society, empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and improved prospects for the next generation. The empowerment and autonomy of women and the improvement of their political, social, economic, and health status is a highly important end in itself. There has been immense progress to uplift women financially, politically and socially, but it is still an open-ended process. Education is one of the most important means of empowering women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in the development process empowering a woman today. Will lead to a progressive society for tomorrow this silver-lining should be our motivation in annualizing gender equality discussion.
• Outcome:
This seminar highlighted the importance of education and challenge the participants to be more conscious in their studies. Thus, education is one of the most important means of empowering women with knowledge, skills and self-confidence which are necessary to participate fully in the development process.
